You can access Search Reference by following the Search Reference link on any page of the site.

What types of search can I perform?
You can search for reference records in International Index to Music Periodicals using a combination of the following fields:
- Keyword(s)
- Headword
- Reference works
How do I find information quickly?
Use the Keyword field to find all reference records containing a single word or phrase:
- Enter the word or words into the Keyword box and click the search button.
- The search results page will be displayed showing a list of reference records containing the word or phrase you entered.
How do I perform more complex searches?
Between search boxes, all terms are treated by default as if they were combined using the Boolean operator AND.
To search for reference records by headword
E.g. to look up a definition.
- Enter a word or phrase into the Headword box
To search for reference records by Reference Work
- Check the appropriate checkbox(es) to include the reference work in the search
Choose from:- All - this includes all the reference works in the search
- Glossary
- Opera Synopses
- Music Fundamental Terms
- Pronunciation Guides
Note: the All checkbox will be selected (and therefore all reference works included) by default.
How do I organize the results of my search?
Displaying results
You can choose whether to display 50 or 100 entries on the Reference Search Results page using the Display radio buttons:
- Click the 50 results radio button to display 50 results per page
- Click the 100 results radio button to display 100 results per page
You can change this on the results page too - the number will persist throughout your session or until you change it again. By default 50 results will display per page.
Submitting a search
When you have finished making your selections, click the Search button at the bottom of the page. The Reference Search Results page will appear displaying the results of your search.
If you want to clear all search boxes and begin a completely new search, click on the Clear search link at the bottom of the page.
