Browse Reference allows you to browse the reference works in International Index to Music Periodicals. You can access Browse Reference by following the Browse Reference link on any page of the site.
Browse Reference opens at the Glossary by default. Reference items are listed alphabetically by headword, with a page for each letter of the alphabet. Any numerical headwords are listed first - the browse will open at the page for either the first number or first letter with reference items available.
To view a list of reference items which begin with a particular letter, click a letter (or number) link in the Browse reference by letter panel to the right of the page. The number of reference items available for each letter or number is shown next to each link.
The Browse Reference by letter panel can be hidden at any time by clicking the Hide Panel tab. To reveal the panel again click the Show Panel tab.
Browse Reference also provides access to the Opera Synopses, Music Fundamental Terms and Pronunciation Guides. Follow the appropriate link at the top of the page to open the first page of the browse you require.
The additional browses are all arranged alphabetically by headword and can be used in the same way as the Glossary described above.
If you are subscibed to Naxos and have Naxos linking enabled an additional link to Browse Naxos links will be shown. This opens an alphabetical list of links to Naxos composer pages contained within the Naxos Music Library site.

Note: all Naxos links open in a new browser window. Once within the Naxos Music Library, subscribers can access additional Naxos material such as composer biographies and recordings of works by various artists, composers and orchestras.
There is a more detailed Reference Record for every Glossary, Opera Synopses an Music Fundamental Terms item listed in Browse Reference. This can be accessed by following the headword or name link in the reference citation on the Browse Reference page.
Note: Pronunciation Guides do not have a reference record as the audio files are accessed directly from Search Results pages or the Browse Reference page.
You can obtain the durable link for a browse reference page by clicking the Durable URL link in the side panel at the right of the page. A pop-up window will open displaying the URL; you can copy and paste it into your documents and email.
Each reference citation includes a checkbox to enable you to add it to the Marked List.
To add all of the reference citations on the page to the Marked List, check the Mark/Clear all reference records on this page checkbox at the top of the list. A progress indicator will count down the number of records as they are added to the Marked List and the final total will be shown next to the Marked List link at the top of the page. The reference citations will be displayed with a new background color to indicate that they have been added to the Marked List.
To remove all the reference citations on the page from the Marked List, uncheck the Mark/Clear all reference records on this page checkbox.
To add an individual reference citation to the Marked List, check the Add to Marked List checkbox below the citation. The background colour of the reference citation will change to indicate that it is now in the Marked List.
To remove an individual reference citation from your Marked List, uncheck the Add to Marked List checkbox below the citation.
Items added to the Marked List will be kept there for the duration of your session. The number of items contained in the Marked List is shown next to the Marked List link at the top of every page.
Note: items added to the Marked List from Browse Reference will be listed in the Reference section of the Marked List.
Note: it is not possible to add Naxos links to the Marked List.
